A música foi escrita por George Harrison em abril de 1969 na casa de campo de seu amigo Eric Clapton, onde ele havia decidido "fazer trapaça" no trabalho para evitar uma reunião na Apple Corps.
O tema da letra reflete o alívio de Harrison com a chegada da primavera e o intervalo temporário dos assuntos comerciais da banda.
Harrison introduziu o sintetizador Moog na sonoridade da faixa após adquirir um modelo inicial na Califórnia, combinando-o com sua guitarra acústica e mudanças de compasso que mostram a influência da música clássica indiana.
Junto com "Something", a música ajudou a trazer a Harrison o mesmo reconhecimento como compositor que antes era reservado apenas a John Lennon e Paul McCartney.
Até 2025, é a música dos Beatles mais tocada no Spotify em todo o mundo, além de ter recebido certificação de platina triplo nas vendas no Reino Unido desde 2010.
A faixa foi usada para promover o relançamento do 50º aniversário do álbum Abbey Road em 2019, chegando ao terceiro lugar na parada Billboard Hot Rock Songs dos EUA naquele período.
