"Biko" foi lançada como single do terceiro álbum solo de Peter Gabriel em 1980 pela Charisma Records, alcançando a 38ª posição nas paradas britânicas.
A música incorpora um ritmo de duas notas tocado em tambor brasileiro e percussão vocal, além de guitarra distorcida e um som sintetizado de gaita, refletindo o interesse crescente de Gabriel por estilos musicais africanos.
Na versão do álbum, o início apresenta a canção tradicional Xhosa "Ngomhla sibuyayo" e o final inclui "Senzeni Na?", enquanto a versão single termina com "Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika".
"Biko" foi banida na África do Sul, pois o governo a considerou uma ameaça à segurança, mas ainda assim se tornou um marco pessoal para Gabriel e impulsionou seu engajamento em ativismo pelos direitos humanos.
O impacto político da faixa foi tão significativo que, juntamente com outras músicas críticas ao apartheid, ajudou a inserir a resistência ao regime sul-africano na cultura popular ocidental e inspirou projetos como o álbum beneficente Sun City.
