O ritmo pulsante e as letras gritadas de “Born Slippy .NUXX” foram criados inicialmente “como uma piada”, e a faixa recebeu pouca atenção quando lançada como B‑side em janeiro de 1995.
Karl Hyde explicou que a música busca reproduzir o “diálogo interno de um alcoólatra”; na época ele próprio era um alcoólatra funcional.
O sufixo “.NUXX” surgiu de uma falha de computador que acrescentou essa terminação aos arquivos de trabalho da banda.
A versão “.NUXX” só se tornou single próprio após aparecer na cena final do filme *Trainspotting* (1996), o que impulsionou a canção ao número 2 nas paradas britânicas em julho de 1996.
Desde 1996, “Born Slippy .NUXX” tem sido tocada em quase todos os shows ao vivo de Underworld, tornando‑se um elemento constante dos seus concertos.
Em 2013, Karl Hyde revelou que a inspiração inicial das letras veio de um episódio envolvendo o comediante Bill Bailey no bar The Ship, na Wardour Street, Londres.
