“Sober” foi lançada como o segundo single do álbum de estreia da banda, *Undertow*, em 1993.
A letra da música foi inspirada por um amigo da banda que só conseguia expressar sua arte quando estava sob influência de drogas.
O guitarrista Adam Jones já revelou em entrevista que o tema da canção aborda a crítica que esse amigo recebe por seu comportamento.
A mensagem de “Sober” destaca que, segundo Jones, se alguém se tornar viciado, essa decisão é responsabilidade própria.
