A canção “Hoochie Coochie Man” foi escrita por Willie Dixon e gravada pela primeira vez pelo próprio Muddy Waters em 1954, marcando sua transição para um arranjo com banda completa no cenário do blues de Chicago.

O riff de stop‑time, introduzido na faixa, “logo foi absorvido na lingua franca do blues, R&B, jazz e rock and roll”, segundo o musicólogo Robert Palmer, influenciando sucessões de músicas em diversos gêneros.

Bo Diddley adaptou a estrutura do riff para sua faixa “I’m a Man”, transformando‑o em um dos motivos musicais mais reconhecíveis do blues e consolidando ainda mais a repercussão da composição de Dixon.
