A canção foi gravada na última hora, quando o álbum de estreia já era considerado finalizado e estava sendo processado para lançamento, mas Mariah Carey pretendia guardá-la para seu segundo álbum.
Ela tocou a demo da música para o ex-CEO da Columbia Records, Don Ienner, enquanto estava em um avião, convencendo a gravadora a incluir a faixa apesar de ela já estar nas fases finais de produção.
Devido à sua adição tardia ao álbum, a música não aparecia na lista de faixas das primeiras prensagens do disco, um erro que só foi corrigido em edições posteriores.
O videoclipe foi gravado em preto e branco em uma praia, destacando-se visualmente no cenário musical daquele período.
