A faixa “Ray of Light” foi escrita por Madonna junto a William Orbit, Clive Maldoon, Dave Curtiss e Christine Leach e baseou-se musicalmente no tema “Sepheryn” de Curtiss Maldoon.
A produção combinou influências de techno, trance, Eurodance e disco, com um som principal de sintetizador que oscila na nota dominante e um riff de guitarra elétrica.
O clipe dirigido por Jonas Åkerlund recebeu a premiação de Melhor Vídeo de Forma Curta no Grammy, além de conquistar cinco prêmios nos MTV Video Music Awards de 1998.
