“Stupid Girl” foi escrita e produzida pelos quatro integrantes da Garbage – Duke Erikson, Shirley Manson, Steve Marker e Butch Vig – e destaca‑se por um loop de bateria retirado de “Train in Vain”, da banda The Clash (1979).
O single, lançado em 1996 pela Almo Sounds na América do Norte e pela Mushroom Records no resto do mundo, tornou‑se o maior sucesso da banda tanto nos EUA quanto no Reino Unido, impulsionando o álbum de estreia para o top 20 da Billboard 200 e para o top 10 da UK Albums Chart.
O arranjo da música gira em torno de uma linha de baixo repetitiva, que junto ao sample de bateria cria um groove reconhecível e muito usado nas rádios e nas pistas de dança da época.
