Bebe Rexha escreveu o refrão original de “The Monster”, intitulado “Monster Under My Bed”, enquanto estava em um período depressivo em um estúdio de Harlem, e a melodia acabou sendo mantida na versão final mesmo após Eminem adicionar seus versos.
Quando o produtor Frequency apresentou a demo ao diretor de A&R da Shady Records, Riggs Morales “ficou em choque” e pediu que as sessões de ProTools fossem enviadas diretamente a Eminem, que então preservou os vocais de fundo de Rexha na gravação final.
